Job Summary
Ranger Construction Corp., a leader in heavy civil construction across Maine, is seeking a detail‑oriented Field Cost Engineer to support project cost tracking and field operations for ongoing infrastructure projects. Based out of Fairfield, ME, this role plays a critical part in monitoring daily job costs, production quantities, and financial performance to help ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
The Field Cost Engineer works closely with project managers, superintendents, accounting, and estimating teams to collect accurate field data, analyze cost trends, and prepare timely reports. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, thrives in a fast‑paced construction environment, and wants to contribute directly to project success.

Responsibilities
- Track and analyze daily project costs including labor, equipment, and materials.
- Record and verify daily production quantities to compare with budgeted values.
- Assist with forecasting, cost‑to‑complete analysis, and variance reporting.
- Review field logs, timesheets, reports, and purchasing documents for accuracy.
- Collaborate with field supervisors to confirm production and cost data.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cost reports for project leadership.
- Support scheduling updates using accurate cost and production data.
- Identify cost trends, overruns, and production issues early and communicate proactively.
- Assist with change order preparation, pricing, and documentation.
- Ensure consistent data accuracy across field systems and job cost software.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field — or equivalent field experience.
- Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze data.
- Understanding of construction documents and field operations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Detail‑oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy.
Preferred
- Experience in heavy civil construction.
- Familiarity with job costing systems (HCSS HeavyJob/HeavyBid, B2W, Vista, etc.).
- Knowledge of production tracking, earned value principles, or project controls.

Work Environment
This role involves regular visits to active construction sites, working in outdoor conditions, and interacting closely with field personnel. Occasional travel to project sites in Maine is required.
